Flood Insurance in Glendale, Los Angeles & Across California
Most homeowners, renters and business property policies do not cover flood damage. A separate flood insurance policy helps protect your home and belongings from rising water, heavy-rain runoff and mudflow. As a local Farmers agent in Glendale, we help families and business owners throughout Los Angeles County and California get flood coverage in place before the rainy season.
What Flood Insurance Can Cover
Building coverage for the structure and foundation, electrical and plumbing systems, furnace, water heater, central air conditioning, built-in appliances, and permanently installed cabinets and carpeting
Contents coverage for furniture, clothing, electronics, washers and dryers, and food freezers (valuables such as artwork and furs are limited to $2,500)
Common causes of flooding such as overflowing rivers and washes, heavy-rain runoff, and mudflow
Increased Cost of Compliance of up to $30,000 to help bring a substantially damaged home up to local floodplain building requirements
How It Works
We offer flood insurance backed by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through Farmers. Homes can be insured for up to $250,000 on the building and $100,000 on contents, and commercial buildings for up to $500,000 on the building and $500,000 on contents. Building and contents coverage are purchased separately, each with its own deductible, and renters can buy contents-only coverage.
Plan ahead: a new NFIP policy generally takes effect 30 days after purchase, so coverage needs to be in place before storms are in the forecast.
What Flood Insurance Does Not Cover
Temporary living expenses while your home is being repaired
Vehicles, which are covered for flood under the comprehensive coverage on your auto policy
Landslides, earth movement and earthquakes, which require separate coverage
Outside property such as pools, decks, fences and landscaping, and most items in basements
Who Should Consider Flood Insurance?
Homeowners near hillsides, washes or creeks
Anyone in or near a mapped flood zone (we can help you check yours)
Homeowners outside high-risk zones, since flooding can happen anywhere it rains
Renters who want their belongings protected
Business owners with property and inventory at street level
